Idenitfied!!!
The photo below has been identifed as that of my Great-grandparents Nicholas and Margaret Thome (Nesges) Date unknown CA 1900. A newly discovered 2nd cousin - Dot Clark - has made the identify. She also has photos of the rest of the Thome family made at the same time. Trivia- You won't see a lot of smiles in these old photos. Was it because people were miserable? Maybe, maybe not. People back then did not have very good teeth so they might have chosen not to show them, also cameras were quite different. It took a lot longer to "snap" a photo and you couldn't move. It is easier to hold a pose without a smile.
Photo Below...
My sister thinks this is a young Katie Hein (Thome)

From D D: Hope this picture comes across good...it's an oldie, in pretty good condition but slightly faded. It has puzzled me for years but I keep coming back to the same conclusion that the young girl standing is Catherine Thome. Especially after sending the last one to you; the resemblence is there. (Also, if you will notice....a resemblence to Meagan). Logic follows that the older woman seated next to her would be her mother Margret Nesges. The picture was, of course, one of those taken by a professional photographer and is printed on that thick card stock. On the back is the photog. studio's logo (3 turrets on a castle wall) and below that the name of the studio "A. Th. Vogel jnr." "Photogr. Atelier" below that. And "Frankenstein in Schlesien" below that. (Hmmm, that's spooky!) On the bottom of the back side there's a couple lines of German words. (Probably their sales motto or something.) Alas, no date could be found. From Henry John: There is quite a resemblence to DD, Meagan, and Vanessa . Catherine Thome was born in Wadena, Minnesota. The "Franenstein in Schlesien" suggests to me that this was taken in Germany - Schlesien is what we call Silesia. Silesia borders present day Germany and is now part of Czech Republic and Poland. That's where Reinhold Hein was from. Go here Frankenstein in Schlesien to learn more about the town. The Thomes were from Ost Prussia (present day Poland bordering the Baltic up to the Rusian border). I don't know if the family ever went back to visit, but I would guess they didn't. Who is it? It could be Reinhold Hein's mother (our Great Granmother) and sister. Here' a link to the town of
L-R Dee Dee and Bobbie Hein, Dolore (Dolo) and Willie
Garde. The little guy in front is me - Henry John. Photo
was taken in front of my Aunt Frances' house 3710 Globe
Ave, Los Angeles. We lived in the houe behind this one:
3710 1/2 Globe Ave. Both houses were torn down around
1956 to make room for the 405 Freeway.
