In the first week of July, 2004 we took a week vacation and visited Lake Itasca, MN. Lake Itasca is the source of the Mississippi River.

07/02/2004 On the way we pased through Bertha and Wadena, MN.

100 years ago my grandparents owned a farm in this township and was here that my father was born. Hauling the camper around with three kids inside the van doesn't make for a leisurely drive so we just snapped a few photos. I resolved to return another day sans camper and kids.

Further down the road we pass through Wadena. It was here that my Grandparents Nick and Katie Thome ran the Great Northern Hotel in the early 1900's.

We reached our campsite at Lake Itasca and went to see an "old-timer" tell storie about the early days. Hannah got pulled into the skit.

We biked down to the Mississippi Headwaters and walked across the Mississippi River.

Henry was the first in and the last out.
